The first thing you learn in Business 101 is that: 'You need to spend more money to get customers during an economic downswing because there are fewer customers out there and reaching a smaller isolated number is harder then reaching a mass audience' The amount of businesses that understand that... Very few. Thats why many of them go out of business. They haven't prepared for what every economy will do which is cycle down. Most businesses think that good times last forever so they fail to plan for when things get tough. Many don't keep cash reserves on hand to float the company through bad times. Every time you make a sale a portion of that should go to a fund that covers you for several months of expenditures. While you are paying your bills for 3 months and scaling back for a longer haul your comp is struggling to keep their doors open. When they start closing you need to be in a position to grab their customers which in turn allows you to keep your doors open. Not advertising and going into lock down mode is nothing but a recipe for disaster. Even if things begin to get better they aren't going to go from bad to great over night. It will generally be gradual so a recovery, certainly like the one we are in right now, is not going to change tomorrow. The business who is proactive and not reactive generally will emerge the winner. While you are getting customers during hard times they are losing them. When things turn around you will emerge as the real winner here.

I hope you have an extremely good personality. In advertising it's all about selling - and to do that you have to have what it takes to get people to talk to you. Your personality will be what makes you or breaks you. When people are comfortable talking to you, and you are listening to what they want and need - you will be able to asses that customers situation and develop a program or product that will benefit them, you and the company you are working for. good luck with the position!

A huge part of any advertising/marketing agency is the copywriting, which is the editing and composing of the messages, what words should be used as a message with any Ad to attract more customers.... I think you mean a 'me too' positioning strategy. There may be a more professionally recognised word for it though, although 'me too' appears in text books. This is basically where a company adopts a tried and tested strategy of others, because it works and theres room in the market for more competitors. At every place I've worked (I'm a Controller), the Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of the operations including sales marketing. You should be able to delegate those tasks, but they would ultimately be your responsibility.

I have worked in the marketing field for several years and the last job I had was with a bank. I found that one must have WILLINGNESS, and the ability to be TRUSTWORTHY. Willingness is a key ingredient in any job but especially in marketing and advertising. One must be willing to do what it takes to get the job done. The long hours, and dedication will go without saying. Also along the way having your clients trust that you have their best interest in mind. So you must always secure your clients trust before being very successful with that client. I have since went on to own my own business and the two characteristics still stand out as the most important.

Your best bet is to spend some time and effort in making your information available. You may want to have your method copyrighted if it is unique. Then spend some time getting flyers out to the real estate offices in your area. Start local and then expand. Remember two things: 1- Rome was not built in one day. 2- Realtors and home owners are reluctant to spend money on an un-proven method of selling. They want as much guarantee as possible on the investments they make.
