  1. Resolved Question: I want to know more about everything!!!!!!! HELP GUIDE ME?
  2. 30 May 2008 at 11:05pm
I'm looking for any references to books, websites and everything else that can help me Increase my general knowledge about the world. This curiosity has always been there but has recently been sparked by a conversation with a recent acquaintance with some one younger than me that made me feel like a complete Idiot in comparison not only in specific fields of study but just generally as well!! ha. For instance, it wasn't till recently that I learned that electricity was actually the act of electrons (of whatever material it traveled through) jumping from one atom to another within the circuit!! I've lived with electricity my whole life and didn't even know what it actually was!! So question #2 I guess is, does the element, that electricity travels through, change for that split moment in time that the atom is waiting to gain the lost electron from a neighboring atom? Reply with whatever you got. I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

  3. Resolved Question: Since when did tipping tour guides become protocol?
  4. 30 May 2008 at 11:43am
I'm an excellent tipper and I like to reward great service. I did a bike tour in Maui a few years ago and tipped our 20 dollars. They did a lot for us like helping set up and putting away our bikes in addition to leading us. That being said, a lot of these bus tours are now demanding tips. We recently went on a 3 hours (which ended up being a 5 hour) bus tour. The guy did nothing but drive us around. We paid $95 for this tour which was quite expensive to begin with. The driver then had the nerve to ask for a tip and suggested we tip him what we would tip a waiter. We have traveled in Europe and Asia and none of the tour guides have ever asked or indirectly sought a tip. I've noticed in the United States, the tour guides are shamelessly asking for tips now. I can't believe the greed and lack of etiquette these tour guides and travel companies have become. This has become a recent trend in this country and tour guides never used to ask for tips like this in the past.

  5. Voting Question: Why should we tip a tour guide?
  6. 30 May 2008 at 11:03am
Since when did tour guides and busdrivers start demanding tips? We bought a $95 bus tour of SF that was scheduled for 3 hours but lasted 5 hours thanks to traffic and the driver. The driver had the nerve to ask us for a 20% tip or as he would put it "Tip us like you would a restaurant waiter"...I don't think so. Waiters are deliberately paid below minimum wage and rely on our tips for a living wage. Tour guides are paid a regular wage. And even if tour guide companies are suddenly stiffing their employees, I don't think it's fair that they have shifted the burden of paying their employees onto their customers. Tipping is getting out of hand. I refuse to tip the tour guides. Do any of you feel the same way. When we were in Europe and Asia, none of the tour guides shamelessly asked for tips. This is an American thing. And this just started in the last decade. I've been traveling for a long time and tour guides and bus drivers never asked for tips in the past.

  16. 29 May 2008 at 3:12am
This animated film was on television and advertised in an early to mid 90s TV Guide. I always had the thought that it was a made for TV movie, but I'm not sure. It was about cats who were like people...walked on two legs, wore clothes, etc... As I remember, the beginning (or at least some part) had a cat giving birth to the main character...in a Victorian-like house as I remember. I think he traveled at some point in the movie and had a female interest. All this, however, is just from my vague memory. Any answers would be helpful...I am looking for the title, character names, images and still shots from the movie, DVD/VHS info, actors, country of origin, and any other information. It is not Swat Cats, Cats Don't Dance, Aristocats, or Oliver and Company.

  47. Resolved Question: Christians, Atheists, Jews, and all others: What are your ...
  48. 23 May 2008 at 1:00pm
    - Here is a much abbreviated version of Jesus speaking in Matthew 23:13-39: Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell? - Questions: 1) The scribes and Pharisees were the religious leaders. Do you think Jesus would say similar things about many Christians and Christian leaders today? 2) Do you find it powerfully ironic that the hypocrisy that Jesus so despised is the same hypocrisy that non-Christians despise about Christians and Christianity, today? 3) How does the ?Do not judge? teaching of Jesus fit in with these ?woes? that He pronounced? Especially when He speaks of them as ?sons of hell?, calls them ?Serpents? and a ?brood of vipers?, and asks, ?how can you escape the condemnation of hell??? -

I've been doing some research - I know about the different spellings...travelled...colour...etc. Is there anything else major I should know about? Any good guides that I can get? Thanks! Oh...I know I said something about spelling...that's the only difference I know. So, I'm asking if there are any grammar differences IN ADDITION to spelling. Sorry I wasn't clear.

I want to see all the major attractions, but what is the best way to get to them? Bus, rental car, taxi? Thanks a bunch!

  71. Resolved Question: A muslim friend told me this?
  72. 19 May 2008 at 9:24am
Allah is the only true god and mohomed is his prophet.. if you convert to islam you will go to heaven because islam is the only true religion that can guide you to heaven i replied him that during my travels i met christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Bahais, parsis and a load of other religions that i cant even pronounce properly who told me exactly what he told me , with the exception of the 2 words allah and mohomed so on these grounds i asked this muslim to prove that his absolute claim above other religions and he changed the subject why is that?

England is a nation of overweight, binge-drinking reality TV addicts." http://uk.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20080509/tuk-uk-britain-guide-fa6b408.html Any truth in this do you think? Or is it another case of travel writers not visiting the countries that they write about?

  75. Resolved Question: to all Canadians, need your opinion, can you help?
  76. 18 May 2008 at 8:24pm
which part of the country would you move to if you were used to living in a warm climate, I am moving there soon, and I am not used to cold climates, I am from Florida, and North Carolina, and actually have thin blood, anemic, so as you know about people like me, cold can be very torturous! My husband wants to move there, because he loves the country, no wars, ect......and I agree, but I am trying to collect as much info and opinions as possible about the country before I move, are the people nice, how about the jobs, climate(and i have learned that most people take it personal when I ask a GENERAL question about the climate, so I will ask....which parts have the warmest climates) my husband is a musicain, so how about the live music, I have been on many websites, that tell about the country, but it is like reading a travel guide, I would like some answers from real people, not articles, ya know? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  80. 18 May 2008 at 1:32pm
I'm looking to invest thousands of dollars of hard earned money. I am afraid to make the wrong move. I just started an assignment in a new "very small" town. I plan to go to Bank of America this week and speak with their financial advisor... BUT, I don't want them to try to get over on me just to get the business--- know what I mean? Therefore, I would like to hire someone to guide me through this process so I can know a little something when I go in to make these big decisions. Of course you will be paid for your time. Job requirements: Know more than I do about investing. Also, investment experience of your own preferred. Thanks in advance. (Pay rate will be discussed. )

  89. Resolved Question: Learning Japanese..?
  90. 16 May 2008 at 7:49pm
Okay, so I love the Japanese culture and decided to learn Japanese a while back. I bought a travel's language guide about a month ago and know two phrases and a few words. Haha. Anyway, I'm an absolute novice and have researched this somewhat thoroughly. There are no Japanese language classes anywhere in my area, and learning by book is proving to be very challenging. So would Rosetta Stone work to get me familiar with the language and prep me for when I actually take an official course - which might be a while away, but still..?

  93. Resolved Question: Free program to help with many different foreign languages?
  94. 15 May 2008 at 3:52pm
Hi, I'm traveling in Europe for a few months this summer, and I visit many different countries. I'd like to be able to learn a few words and phrases in the languages of the countries I'm visiting, but I don't want to buy any language books or any professional software like Rosetta Stone. Are there any free downloadable programs that I could use to help teach myself a little bit of many different languages, or any website that have simple traveler's guides to several languages? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
